Australia vs Spain, FIFA World Cup 2014: Facts Punch of 33rd Match

Spain before catching flight back home will face Australia in a Group B encounter, the result will not have any effect on the top two spots in the group. Spain came into the tournament with a tag of defending champions but crashed out after Netherlands and Chile drubbed them. On the other hand Australia the lowest ranked side in the tournament may have failed to win a game but they certainly have won many hearts with their inspiring performances. As two teams play for one last time in this World Cup we bring to you some facts.

1)  Spain have never before lost all three group stage matches in a World Cup.

2) Spain is the fourth defending champion to be ousted in the group stage. The other three are Italy in 1950 and 2010, Brazil in 1966, and France in 2002.

3)  In last game against Chile Spain posted their lowest passing accuracy in a World Cup game (81.7%) since 2002.

4)  Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta will win his 100th cap if he takes field against Chile.

5)  Out of their seven World Cup games against European nations Australia have only defeated Serbia 21- in 2010.

6)  Australia midfielder Tim Cahill who will miss the game after picking two bookings has scored five of Australia’s 11 World Cup gaols.

7)  Australia have conceded in each of their last nine World Cup games.

8) This will be for the first time Australia and Spain face each other.
