The last thing Colombia wanted after an injury to star striker Radamel Falcao was a tough group but with games coming up against Greece, Japan and Ivory Coast they have somewhat avoided it. Group C kicks off with Colombia playing Greece in Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte. Both teams have some fascinating wide players and it is here we think that the tie will be decided.
COLOMBIA
Colombia were dealt an early blow with Radamel Falcao ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury and is set to be replaced by Tiofilo Gutierrez who plays in Argentina for River Plate. Colombia will play a traditional 4-4-2 with Calos Bacca playing the second strikers role. James Rodriguez should start at the left of midfield but will have the freedom to swap flanks as the game will move on. Colombia has the luxury of playing out an out winger Juan Cuadrado on the right side of the midfield. Pablo Armero and Juan Zuniga bombard the opposition with creative runs and this match will be no different. Mario Yepes is a solid presence in defence for the South Americans and would look to hold fort for his side.
GREECE
Greece coach Fernando Santos will not tinker his defensive 4-3-3 that saw it conceding just 4 goals In 10 qualifying matches. Their central midfield looks solid with Kostas Katsouranis, Giannis Maniatis and Alexandros Tziolis who are capable enough in defence. Dimitris Salpingidis will have his task cut out at the flanks and will look to create chance for target man Georgios Samaras. Vasilis Torosidis’s importance to the Greeks is immense as he brings quality in both halves. Greece is not known for their goal scoring and their attacking play needs to improve if they are to have any chance in the game.
POSSIBLE LINE UP
Colombia (4-4-2): Ospina , Zuniga, Yepes, Zapata, Armero, Cuadrado, Aguilar, Rodriguez, Sanchez, Gutierez, Martinez.
Greece (4-3-3): Karnezis, Torosidis, Papasthathopoulos, Manolas, Holebas, Salpingidis, Katsouranis, Maniatis, Kone, Samaras, Mitroglou.
MATCH PREDICTION: Colombia remain clear favourites for the match and it would be a huge upset if Greece overcome their formidable opponents.
FULL TIME SCORE: COLOMBIA 2 GREECE 0
