FIFA World Cup 2014, Netherlands vs Chile: Key players to watch

The Netherland take on Chile in Sao Paulo with both sides already guaranteed a spot in the round of sixteen. What makes this encounter special is that the winner of the tie on all accounts should avoid an early meeting with host nation Brazil,   something these two sides have at the back of their minds coming into the match. Let us look at some of the players on show in Sao Paulo hoping to secure those crucial three points for their respective sides.

STAR PLAYERS

Arjen Robben: It has been the ‘Robben and Robin show’ for the Dutch so far in the tournament but with Robin Van Persie missing this match through suspension, all eyes will be on Arjen Robben to lead the Dutch attack. Having been on the score sheet thrice already it would not come as a surprise if the stand in skipper adds to his tally against a resurgent Chile.

Alexis Sanchez: The Barcelona man is the go to guy for his country and has taken on the most stubborn of defences in the cup so far. He remains one of the key figures for his side as he scores and assists for his side with equal vigour. Sanchez who has been followed by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal will look to continue his good form that has seen his market value rise leaps and bounds.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR NETHERLANDS

Wesley Sneijder: He came into the tournament with a pretty average season in the not so competitive Turkish league but two solid displays in the midfield for the Dutch and Wesley Sneijder has found his old rythem. When he is on song, the opponents usually find him hard to contain.

Daley Bind: The young left back has been one of the finds of the tournament and is a pivotal member of Luis Van Gaal’s side. He can switch to the centre back position with ease and his telling crosses can be difficult for opponents to deal with.

Jonathan De Guzman: The Swansea man could not have dreamt of making it to the squad two seasons ago when he was at Villarreal but his fortunes changed as he made a loan move to Swansea city. He will be looking to make the most of this World Cup as he vies for a regular spot in the Dutch squad.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR CHILE

Arturo Vidal: The Juventus midfielder tore apart the Spanish defence in the last match and despite a few fitness issues; he would keep the Dutch back four on their toes with his killer passes.

Eduardo Vargas: He got the opening goal for his side against Spain making a mockery of Iker Casillas and would love to be the score sheet agan when his side face the Dutch. The Napoli man has put several clubs across Europe on alert with his fine showing in Brazil.

Jorge Valdivia: The creative midfielder goes about his job quietly and is one of the most underrated players in the squad. After a decade in the side, he is finally reaping the benefits of years of hard work put in a Chilean shirt.
