FIFA World Cup 2014: United States vs Germany: Key players for today’s match

Jurgen Klinsmann will be up against his former protégé when his USA side take on Joachim Loews high flying Germans with barring a massive turnaround both side should qualify for the knockout stage. Let us look at some of the players hoping to shine for their respective sides   in this high octane encounter.

 STAR PLAYERS:

TONI KROOS: The midfield general of the German team is the backbone of his side. The whole game seems to revolve around this young Bayern Munich player and he would look to impose his dominance on what is certainly a weak US midfield.

CLINT DEMPSEY: The US skipper has certainly increased the chances of his debut rap album finding immense popularity when he releases it after the World Cup with some gutsy performances for his side in Brazil. He almost won them the game with a late strike against Portugal only to be later cancelled out by a Silvestre Varela header.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR UNITED STATES:

KYLE BECKERMAN: The US midfielder will have to protect his back four against a ruthless German side and will have to be patient as their opponent may frustrate them with the lion’s share of possession.

TIM HOWARD: He was completely helpless in both the goals his side conceded in the game against Portugal but has been in good form overall. He knows he is up against it when his side face the Germans with a host of attackers in the opposition camp.

JERMAINE JONES: The Besiktas midfielder scored on of the goals of the tournament against Portugal and would be hoping his good form continuous against the Germans.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR GERMANY:

MESUT OZIL: He has looked lively in both the matches in Brazil so far but with a player of his stature the fans are still waiting for that one performance which will truly kick start his campaign in Brazil.

THOMAS MULLER: After the high of a hat-trick against Portugal, Muller spurned some good chances against Ghana and left the pitch with a bloodied face. The German ace would be hoping to get back to business as usual against the Hollywood side.

MIROSLAV KLOSE: The veteran striker needed only two minutes to equal Ronaldo’s record of most goals at the World Cup finals and looking at the form he showed against Ghana ,a new record does not seem far for Klose.
