Brazil vs Colombia: Hosts Brazil beat Colombia 2-1 to reach semis


FULL TIME
Brazil hold out to win. James Rodriguez’s penalty gave Colombia a glimmer of hope but Brazil’s defence is resilient and determined and give nothing away. There were five minutes of stoppage time but the hosts stood firm and will now face Germany in the Semi-Finals. Brazil win 2-1!!!

90 Min: Rodriguez fouled again, and the referee doesn’t give anything again. He has been a total disgrace.Ramos flicks on Rodriguez’s corner, but there’s nobody at the back post.

79 Min: GOAL!!! James Rodriguez gets hi sixth goal of the World Cup and its from the penalty spot. Julio Ceasar was the culprit for a bad tackle and the Colombian talisman stutters in his run up and takes a cool penalty to the bottom left corner that sends the keeper the wrong way. Game on at 2-1!


68 Min: GOAL!!! David Luiz scores from a wicked free-kick! The defender scores from a dead-ball from 30 yards out! Phenomenal! Brazil are back! Brazil 2-0 up.

59 Min: GOLDEN CHANCE! Rodriguez tees the ball up for Guarin, but the Inter midfielder volleys well over. He should have passed!

50 Min: A cross on the right from the free kick, and Cuadrado’s effort is headed away. Rodriguez slides a ball forward for Ramos, but it’s just overhit.

Second-half: The referee gets the game underway again.

HALF-TIME

End to end stuff here! Tackles flying all around. Colombia’s finishing has been less than satisfactory while Brazil capitalized on the only goalscoring chance they got and they are 1-0 up at half-time. Colombia can still get back in it.

44 Min: Colombia have giving another free-kick away at the edge of the area. How many more are they going to give away? Soon they’ll be 2-0 down! Neymar takes the free-kick and its just whiskers away. Lucky Colombia.

28 Min: SAVE! Hulk picks up the ball in the box, shifts it onto his left and drills a shot across the goal that Ospina does well to get down and block.

20 Min: CHANCE! Hulk gets through on goal and has a shot from a tight angle blocked. Brazil are not sitting back here! They’re going for the second!

10 Min: CHANCE! Cuadrado with a long-ranger there! With his left foot the Colombian unleashed a low shot outside the penalty area.

5 Min: GOAL!!! Thiago Silva with the important goal!!! A Neymar corner was missed by David Luiz and Silva ran onto send it in!

Kick-off: Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo gets the game going. What a match we have on our hands! Barcelona right-back Dani Alves was replaced by Maicon as Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari made two changes to his side for the encounter.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho also replaced the suspended Luis Gustavo in midfield while striker Fred kept his place. Colombia boss Jose Pekerman also made two changes to the side that beat Uruguay 2-0 in the last 16.

Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin and Cagliari forward Victor Ibarbo came in for Abel Aguilar and Jackson Martinez.

Brazil take on south American rivals Colombia for the second quarter-finals at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza. The Colombians have been the surprise package in this World Cup so far and are challenging the hosts for a place in the semi-finals. The winner of this encounter will face Germany who beat France earlier.
