Lionel Messi leads Argentina to a 2-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina

Lionel Messi scored a trademark solo goal to give Argentina a win in their opening FIFA World Cup 2014 game against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The captain of Argentina also created the first goal as they pushed aside Bosnia and Herzegovina inspite of a lacklustre performance. Messi’s teasing free-kick caused panic in the Bosnian defence after only two minutes and eight seconds, when the ball came off Sead Kolasinac’s legs and went past Asmir Begovic. It’s the fastest own goal in World Cup history. The third own goal in this edition as of now.

On 65 minutes Messi electrified the 78,800-capacity stadium with a what he does best as he went on a run with the ball glued to his feet and into the danzer zone when he unleashed a low shot which flew into the goal.

Bosnian substitute Vedad Ibisevic grabbed one goal back for Bosnia as he slid his shot below the advancing Sergio Romero. But the side failed to get the second goal.

Hordes of Argentina fans helped transform Rio’s famous Maracana Stadium into a corner of Buenos Aires as the South American giants eased past their Group F rivals. Iran and Nigeria will play their opener tomorrow.
